The exhibition brings together artist’ recent works, from 2017, revealing her fascination about the botanical realm. The botanical watercolors illustrate the beauty of flowers in a decorative manner, focusing on pure observation and admiration, as a state of mind that creates the main access gate towards gratitude and blessing. On a deeper layer, the abstract oil paintings talk about understanding and acceptance of the ephemeral existence and mortality. The flow of nature through the seasonal changes proves the power of present. From decorative to abstract, from observation to emotion, Irina’s works speak about her present moments of bliss, simplicity and elegance.
Irina will exhibit the following works:
- Botanical illustration – watercolor on paper, framed
- Abstract painting – oil and mixed media on canvas, large formats, unframed
- The Book of Moods – project preview – oil on canvas and artist book
The works will be displayed as following:
- The botanical illustrations and the abstract paintings should be placed together, in groups, as they portray the process of carrying botanical subjects from classical to abstract.
- The Book of Moods should be placed separately, as it is a work-in-progress project, sort of a preview of my latest works.
In her latest series the “The Book of Moods”, Irina employs realistic painting as a storytelling technique to depict intricate moods as surreal narratives. Botanical subjects become metaphors of mortality and ephemeral beauty.
The Exhibition will be curated by Karima Radwan, art historian and art lecturer.
