Before schizophrenia, my art was warm and optimistic. Afterwards, gradually, it evolved towards a darker stage. This was due to the depression associated to my drug abuse at that time. I used to paint representations of my visual hallucinations or just to escape from the auditory ones.

One day my brother, actor as profession, entered in my studio to see me. He saw the paintings and shouted: “What’s with the dark in your paintings? Who do you think will like or buy them?” That was the moment when I gradually started to heal and my art become a lighter and with more color.

EXHIBITION “ESSENTIALISM”

Alexandra Andone studied and works in Brand Creation and Communication field. She discovered her vocation for painting 7 years ago at the age of 27. She spent 4 years studying oil painting technique in Nicolae Maniu’s studio, one of the best contemporary painters from Romania, the only one that has been represented in the last 20 years by the successful OPERA Gallery  in Shanghai, New York and Paris.  During her art training time, she had personal & group exhibition, marking a consistent entrance in the Universe of Romanian Arts both in the country capital, Bucharest but also in the city where she lives, Cluj- the capital of Romanian arts where the famous Cluj School of Arts was created and where internationally known painters like Adrian Ghenie were formed. All Alexandra’s exhibitions had a huge success and won the public sympathy due to her courageous and original subjects, always represented in vivid and strong colors.

We are delighted to invite you to an incredible special exhibition.

Even if you just came back from your holidays spent all over the Globe, the maps painted on leather by the artist will send you again into an imaginary journey, geographical and historical.

The Exhibition will include a collection of 3 original maps on leather prepared according to an old recipe by Leonardo da Vinci that Vali has successfully revived and also smaller original sketches  with characters from the maps and also different sizes prints on canvas of the original maps plus of other maps that were sold after Vali’s exhibition of the National Museum of Maps and Old Books in Bucharest.

Also, the handmade carpets made using antique techniques out of hand spun& naturally dyed wool will still be on display in the Gallery, together, the maps painted on leather by a contemporary artist and the contemporary rugs, will recreate the Renaissance ambiance of the event.
